ACTIVITY 1: Periodic Table of the Elements

Periodic Table could have Images

What do the numbers represent in the upper left and upper right of an element?
The upper left # is the atomic number : The number of protons found in the nucleus of an atom.

The upper right # is the relative atomic weight: Weight of the atom.

Mg what is this?
Mg is an abreviation or symbol used for Magnesium. Each element has their own symbol as a means of identification.

What is the difference between Na and K?
Na is Sodium and is a metallic element part of the alkali metals. It has only 1 stable isotope.
K stands for Potassium which is also a metallic alkali metal. The two are chemically vary simular; however Potassium in nature occurs only as ionic salt.
